Experience

Captain Paul Verveniotis has decades of professional experience in the operation of sailing and motor yachts, with many thousands of miles underway on vessels ranging from offshore racing yachts to U.S. Coast Guard 378′ high endurance cutters.  His flagship sailing experience includes two training cruises aboard the USCG Barque Eagle while attending the United States Coast Guard Academy.

Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, Paul was a key early employee of one of the first and premier yacht charter and sailing education companies in California.  As their chief instructor and charter captain, he operated on the Bay and throughout the West Coast as an ASA Sailing Instructor (he authored the ASA’s first Instructor Evaluation program in the mid 1980’s).  Paul taught basic through advanced sailing and seamanship, voyage planning, racing, piloting, celestial and electronic navigation, damage control, and heavy weather tactics.

More recently, Paul has focused on private and commercial yacht and high speed ferry operations, as well as deliveries of sail and motor vessels mostly along the U.S. West Coast.

Local Experience

Paul’s local operations experience includes being a founding member and Chief Operations Officer of PROPSF, the world’s first corporate high-speed commuter ferry service.

He managed all operations during the initial growth of the company.  Paul developed the company’s policies and procedures and was responsible for regulatory compliance, engineering, maintenance, staff development and management, as well as captain duty on scheduled services.

Key customers included Genentech and Facebook, with daily service from Redwood City to Benicia in custom high speed catamarans traveling in excess of 30 knots.

Paul has operated charter vessels locally in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1979 and is intimately familiar with the vagaries and unique tidal conditions of the Bay from Alviso at the very south end to Sacramento. Charters include both power and sailing vessels of all sizes.

He currently serves as captain on private yachts and luxury passenger vessels for clients who demand top notch customer satisfaction.

Paul also provides many deliveries and short trips locally within San Francisco Bay and the Delta.  These are often temporary relocations due to maintenance needs, or assisting brokerages by taking out prospective customers on new and used vessels.

As an accomplished racing skipper and tactician, Paul has sailed countless one-design and PHRF races on the various sizes of Beneteau, Bristol, C&C, Cal, Cape Dory, Catalina, Cavalier, Columbia, Coronado, Dehler, Dufour, Ericson, Folkboat, Frers, Gulfstar, Hans Christian, Hobie, Hunter, Hylas, Islander, J-Boats, Jeanneau, Luders, MacGregor, Merit, Moore, Morgan, Mull, Newport, O’Day, Olson, Pacific Seacraft, Passport, Pearson, Peterson, Ranger, Sabre, Santa Cruz, Santana, S2, Tanzer and many more.
